AUGUSTINERMUSEUM

The municipal Augustiner Museum founded in 1923 is housed in a former monastery in the heart of Freiburg’s lively old town district just a few minutes’ walk from the cathedral. Its comprehensive collection of ecclesiastical artworks makes it one of the most important museums in south-west Germany. Planning work for a conversion to cope with modern requirements began in 2002, and the first phase of the work was completed in 2010. This book presents the chequered history of the museum and illustrates, through a number of fascinating pictures, the new appearance, which is in some ways fundamentally different.
